Library Trestle Rehabilitation and Trail Construction to Pleasant Street
Trail mile 35.2

Description: Expansion of the Montour Trail from Peters Township and Bethel Park eastward will utilize the existing Library Viaduct spanning Route 88 and the Port Authority Transit light rail tracks.

At present, original railroad rails remain mounted to the Library Viaduct deck. This project will involve removing the existing rails and ties from the Viaduct, repairing the Viaduct as needed, then installing a new concrete deck and fencing.

A small amount of trail surfacing west of the Viaduct Trail must be performed. Construction of trail east of the Viaduct to Pleasant Street will require moderate earthmoving because the trail right-of-way will be located slightly north of the original Montour Railroad right-of-way.

Viaduct Current Status: Detailed Engineering work is in progress for the Viaduct; the Viaduct construction funding sources have been identified, and are expected to be sufficient.

Viaduct - Pleasant Street Trail Status: A Detailed Engineering design is complete, but may be adjusted slightly to reduce cost; construction funding has been applied for.

Estimated Completion: Late 2014 or early 2015 for the Viaduct and trail to Pleasant Street.
