Join us as we celebrate MTC’s 35th anniversary and its 2024 accomplishments!

The MTC Annual Meeting & Dinner this year is November 3 at the Airport Marriott (exit 58 off Parkway West), with keynote speakers Roy Weil and Mary Shaw.

The couple will present a retrospective of their decades of effort supporting MTC and promoting regional trails.They are long-time bicyclists and authors of “FreeWheeling Easy in Western Pennsylvania” and the original guide to the GAP, “Linking Up.”

Make your reservation for the meeting and dinner online. The cost is $30 per person.

Ballot: 2024 Election for 2025 Calendar Year

Each fall, the Montour Trail Council asks members to vote on nominees to the Board of Directors. For 2024, we are also requesting a vote on proposed bylaw modifications. Results will be tabulated and announced at the annual meeting on Sunday, November 3.

Nominees for the 2025-2027 Board Term

Dave Borrebach has been a MTC board member for nine years. He has been chair of the Nominating committee since 2016 and is a member of the Membership & Community Outreach, Finance, and Operations committees. Dave served as MTC vice president in 2019. A retired human resource consultant, Dave lives in Ohio Township with his wife Margaret.

Peter Kohnke is a founding member of Montour Trail Council and served as MTC president from 2001-2003. He is currently active on the Engineering & Construction and Real Estate committees.  He has been president of the Friends of the Montour Trail in Bethel Park since its founding in 1997 and is currently working on acquiring right-of-way to enable the Bethel Branch to extend into other parts of Bethel Park. Peter lives in Bethel Park within sight of the trail.

Mark Modispacher is an avid trail rider and MTC member. He has been a past President of Airport Area Friends of the Montour Trail and has served on the MTC Board of Directors. He devotes many hours each month performing routine trail maintenance items and coordinating special projects involving Boy Scouts, corporate work parties, and individuals.

Bill Orr, an avid cyclist, started volunteering with MTC in 2003 as the first Tour the Montour event director. He has served various MTC leadership roles over the years, including the Half Marathon as event director, MTC vice president, and his current role as MTC treasurer. Bill has been a board member of MTC for 8 years. He is a data engineer for Federal Express Corporation in Moon Township and lives in North Fayette Township.

David Oyler began volunteering with MTC in 2001, and he’s served as a Board member for 18 years since 2004. Dave is a founding member of South Hills Friends group is currently its secretary/ treasurer. He has been a member of the Engineering & Construction committee since 2003 and project manager for four trail construction projects, including the recently completed section west of Stewart Rd. Dave and his wife Anne live in South Park Township.

Tom Prezel has volunteered with Montour Trail for 26+ years. He has co-chaired the Engineering & Construction committee for 14 years and served as MTC project manager for the JR Taylor Memorial Bridge, Library viaduct, and Piney Fork Road projects. Tom has been a Board member for 12 years, serving as MTC vice president for five years. He was a mechanical engineer and engineering manager at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory for 39 years prior to retiring in 2006. Tom and his wife Linda live in Chartiers Township.

Ned Williams served as MTC president for nine years and is active in just about every area of MTC’s activities: He is a member of the Executive, Engineering & Construction, Finance, Membership & Community Outreach, Operations, and Real Estate committees. Prior to retirement, Ned was director of IT, quality assurance and safety at Washington Tool and Machine Co. He and his wife Mary (also an active MTC volunteer) live in Washington, PA.

Chuck Wolf has been a Montour Trail user and MTC member for over 20 years and an active volunteer with Cecil Friends for 10+ years. He currently serves as the vice president of Cecil Friends. He is semi-retired from United States Steel Corporation, after working for 32 years in various information technology roles. He lives in South Fayette.

Proposed Bylaw Revisions

The MTC Board periodically recommends modifications to MTC Bylaws, most recently in 2022. This year the Board proposes revisions to Article XI, Election of Board Members, Sections 2 and 3. The proposed revisions are designed to align the bylaws with actual practice including the use of vote-by-mail and online voting methodology.

ARTICLE XI – ELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS

Section 2. Procedure for Selecting Candidates. The Nominating Committee shall prepare a list of names of at least one (1) consenting candidate for each vacancy to be filled on the Board of Directors in the ensuing election. No Member shall be nominated without his consent. Candidates shall be selected from the membership at large but shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Membership on the Nominating Committee will not disqualify a person for any nomination. The Nominating Committee shall present the slate of candidates to the Board for approval at least twenty-eight (28) days prior to the Annual Meeting. The Secretary shall ensure that all Members are notified at least fifteen (15) days prior to the Annual Meeting of the full list of candidates approved by the Board.

Section 3. Election Procedure. Prior to the Annual Meeting the Secretary shall prepare ballots bearing the names of the candidates. The new Directors shall be elected by a vote concluded at the Annual Meeting. Each participating Member shall cast 1 vote for each Director position to be filled. Those nominees receiving the highest number of votes shall be declared elected. A tie vote shall be resolved by a coin toss confined to resolution of the tie.
