Gateway Engineers 9.21.24 Tour the Montour

See You at the Ride!

The 21st Annual Tour the Montour, sponsored by Gateway Engineers, takes off on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The ride is a non-competitive, family-fun bike ride that begins at mile marker zero in Coraopolis. Parking is at AHN Montour Junction Sports Complex, which is adjacent to the start/finish line.

Participants whose entry forms are postmarked by August 31 are guaranteed a 2023 Tour T-shirt. Since supplies are finite, late entrants may not receive a shirt after the cut-off date. In addition, you may order additional T-shirts (adult sizes only, $15 to $20).

Tour Details

Gateway Engineers Tour the Montour takes place rain or shine.

For safety reasons, no headphones/ear buds. Helmets are mandatory.

Emergency-only mechanical assistance is provided at start/finish; participants and bicycles should be in good condition prior to ride.

Rest stops are positioned along the course every 5 to 10 miles, providing fruit, snacks, electrolyte replacement and water.

Century and 44-mile riders should maintain a 10-mph and 8-mph pace, respectively, to finish the course while rest stops and lunch are open.

SAG (support & gear) assistance is available along the course, and the Montour Trail Safety Patrol will be deployed during the event.

A delicious post-ride lunch is provided at the Forest Grove Sportsmen’s Rod & Gun Club, near trail MM 1.5. You can choose a vegetarian lunch, if you wish, when you register. Riders are encouraged to bike to/from lunch.

Check out the great basket-raffle prizes during your lunch stop.

Chance raffle tickets for basket prizes will be available at registration and lunch, with winners announced late afternoon.

Volunteer

Not a bicyclist? You still can help. To stage the Tour the Montour, we need many volunteers to fill a variety of positions. Here are just a few areas:

[wpdatatable id=5]

In general, MTC volunteers log tens of thousands of hours annually, whether on the trail or as part of a project committee. We can always use a few more hands to help us accomplish our goals. Contact Phillip Torrez if you are interested in volunteering for the Tour.

Routes

All routes travel out and back on the Montour Trail, MM 0 – MM 27, using the Westland branch to complete the metric century circuit.

Registration

All participants must fill out an entry form and sign the waiver (which can be copied) before participating in the event.

Entry fees are $65 for each adult and $15 for each child. Montour Trail Council members receive a discount.

Online registration is closed, but you can still register on-site the morning of the event starting at 7:15 am. We also will accept registrations at the Tour packet pick-up on Thursday at Trek Bikes, Route 60, in Robinson Twp., from 5-8 pm.

Fundraising

Gateway Engineers Tour the Montour is MTC’s premier fundraising effort.

We encourage you to extend your support of the Montour Trail by raising funds above and beyond the registration fee. How? Connect with family & friends in your social network and ask them to contribute. This earns you the title of Fundraising Champion along with a few other rewards. All donations go directly to keeping the Trail a valuable community resource.

If fundraising isn’t your gig, you can contribute to any Fundraising Champion page. Click here to see the list of individuals and teams.
